Power Solutions: five new international projects

March 27th, 2017: Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology’s Power Solutions division has received five new orders: two in Ethiopia, two in Haiti and one in Cambodia. All five projects have been commissioned by breweries. The first of the assignments in Ethiopia concerns a production expansion to three million hectolitres for a brewery in Kilinto. Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology will supply and install an additional emergency power generator and three substations, one of which will be fully containerised.

For another brewery in the Ethiopian city of Harar, Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology will provide a new emergency generator, a load sharing system and a synchronisation panel. The materials are already underway and the installation will begin soon. A brewery in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, for which Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology has already supplied three generators in the past, is seeing excellent results and therefore wishes to expand production and reinforce its power supply. A fourth generator will soon be delivered and installed. Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology also has two projects in Haiti, the first of which was commissioned by another regular customer who needed a substation for a new brewhouse and a containerised substation containing a dynamic UPS system to be supplied and fitted. The second Haitian project originated from the brewery Brana in Port-au-Prince, which is undergoing a phased modernisation – a sign of the rebuilding that has been ongoing throughout the country since the earthquake of 2010. Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology had already implemented three other projects for this partner in recent years.

The first, in 2015, involved the delivery of a containerised substation as the power supply for a new packaging line. To optimise the efficiency of the line, this substation was equipped with a dynamic UPS system, ensuring that the line remained fully operational even when small dips in the power grid occurred. Due to limited space, the configuration chosen by the brewery consisted of two stacked 20-foot containers.

Brana was highly enthusiastic about the operation of the UPS system and Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology’s service, and when it needed to have an existing line replaced in 2017, the order was again awarded to the Dutch company. Together with the customer, Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology adapted the double 20-foot-container design to one twice the size. While the structure was different, the quality remained unchanged and the UPS system again proved to be tremendously efficient. The latest contract from Brana consists of two components. The first is the power supply for a brand-new brewhouse. Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology will supply a medium-voltage protection system, an energy-saving stepdown transformer and a low-voltage distribution panel for this facility. As with previous assignments, Piet Brouwer will take care of every aspect of the job, delivering a turnkey solution to the customer. The second component of the project will be the engineering of a third containerised substation with UPS, which has already begun. This will be another 40-foot solution that will fit within the existing structure. Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology is pleased with how the cooperation with Brana has gone on previous partnerships and looks forward to a fruitful cooperation on these ongoing projects.
