Pioneering new hybrid carriers Royal Bodewes with electrical installation Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology

April 28, 2020: Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology will provide the system design, equipment and installation for two new 9300 DWT self-discharging bulk carriers featuring hybrid propulsion. The two vessels being designed and built by Royal Bodewes Shipyard will be the first of their kind to be fitted with this hybrid solution.

The hybrid system will be designed and delivered by Wärtsilä while Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology takes care of the integration as part of the complete electrical installation.

The vessels will be built for Aasen Shipping from Norway and equipped with an electrical excavator for loading and unloading. Furthermore, a high-power shore connection will be part of the system to supply the battery package and excavator with zero emission energy.

Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology is the main contractor for the complete electrical installation. This package contains the engineering, panel building, wheelhouse desks, alarm and monitoring system, lighting package, fire detection, tank sensors and galley equipment.

The contract follows on from a series of 10 general cargo vessels and we are proud of this ongoing partnership with Royal Bodewes Shipyard.
